Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
This Saturday, 5 September 2020, we celebrated the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults; celebrating the triple Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and first Holy Communion for Audrey, Beauty, Mike, Motunrayo and Sam – as well as Confirmation for Nicole and First Holy Communion for Theo. All this, of course, was initially supposed to have taken place on Easter Night back on 11 April 2020. It is a great joy to once more see something both so beautiful and extraordinary, and yet so usual, as a celebration of the rites of initiation. It was a truly joyful celebration. It reminds me very much of my own reception, Confirmation and first Holy Communion back on 2 December 2007 at the University of Nottingham – one of the greatest days of my life. Becoming a Catholic was the best decision I ever made, it has patterned the whole of my life and is truly the most exciting of adventures. I’m am thankful that we were able to celebrate this liturgy, all be it six months late, and grateful that I was able to be there before moving parishes.
Now usually the church would be packed on Easter Night when we celebrate these sacraments, and it is very much a celebration of the whole community. Obviously that wasn’t possible this year, but we have uploaded some photo’s and a copy of the homily onto the for you to share in.
