Kerala floods: an SVP appeal As you’ve probably seen in the media, terrible floods have been taking place in Kerala in southern India. Hundreds of people have been killed and many more are missing; countless homes have been washed away, and the monsoon season is set to continue until early September. Kerala is the most Christian state in India – it has more churches than any other region. The leading Catholic volunteering charity, the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), is very active there and they are doing great work helping the victims of the flood in local communities. However, they desperately need funds. Please contribute to the SVP’s Kerala appeal. To donate visit www.svp.org.uk, telephone 020 7703 3030 or send cheques made out to SVP (write ‘Kerala appeal’ on the back) to SVP, Romero House, 55 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7JB. And please remember our sisters and brothers in Kerala in your prayers.
Volunteer Flower Arrangers Needed at St Philip Neri: For many years, a group of dedicated ladies have kept to a weekly rota to arrange flowers in our beautiful church. This is a very rewarding voluntary service, performed, as I think you will all agree, to a very high standard. Unfortunately, over the years, a few of these volunteers have had to drop out and we are now in a situation where we are struggling to fill the rota in such a way that it doesn’t become too onerous a task for those still doing it. If you feel that you could help out, please let us know. You don’t have to have any particular skill at arranging flowers, but you could certainly pick up a few tips if they were needed. Presently we come every six weeks, but with a few more volunteers, this could be extended. Gentlemen, this is something that might interest a few of you and you would be made most welcome. Please give this your serious consideration and leave your name and contact details in the office if you think you would like to help. Thank you.
Safeguarding: The Diocese of Nottingham requires that each parish/Religious Congregation has a Safeguarding Representative in place. The Safeguarding Rep has responsibility for promoting good and safe practices in all activities involving children, young people and adults and for providing advice on child/adult safeguarding matters. St Philip Neri’s representatives are Kathleen Campbell and Sybil Hedley withx Kate Gilbert responsible for our other three Churches. They provide the link between the parish and the Safeguarding Co-ordinator for the Diocese. They have received all the relevant training and know who to contact if any concerns or allegations are raised. Also they play a key role in the safer recruitment process, including DBS Disclosure at a local level. See their details on the poster at the back of Church. Mrs Clare McKenzie is the Safeguarding Coordinator for the Diocese and can be contacted at Family Care on: 01559603010.
FR JOHN’S INDUCTION MASS ON 9th OCTOBER 2017
Published with permission
Tuesday Rosary: An invitation to all to come along to recite the Rosary before Mass each Tuesday.
Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life: Are you thinking about serving God as a priest or religious? If so, kindly speak to either of the priests at any time.
Parking at Lymns Funeral Directors: Lymns have kindly allowed parishioners to park their cars on their land at Mass times for a good number of years, it is vitally important that no one parks in front of any doors or blocks any access for the funeral cars, or the flat above, as they need to be able to access their property at all times. Unfortunately this has happened on a couple of occasions. Please be extra careful not to do so. It would be most unfortunate if we could no longer use their parking spaces, so please park courteously or permission to park on Lymns premises may be withdrawn.
Coffee: after 9am Mass each Sunday. Also after 12.10pm Mass each Wednesday, all welcome, a good time to catch up with each other.
Parish Records: Do we have your name, address and telephone number? If not, can you please contact the parish office with your details so we have a way of keeping in touch? Thank you.
Legacies: Are a vitally important part of Church income, especially as most parishes in this country are seeing their income from collections decrease. None of us like to think about what happens after our death, but, if you are thinking about making a will, please remember the Church. Much of what you see before you has been provided through the generosity of our benefactors.
Mansfield Street Pastors: Would you like to volunteer to help with this ministry? If so please contact email@example.com or call 07854625873. Also see poster.
Volunteers: If anyone would like to volunteer to help clean our Church please contact the parish office so your name can be added to the rota. It is the same procedure if you wish to join any ministry, your help is always needed. If you wish to remove your name from any rota please contact the parish office as soon as you can .
